STOP! Children’s Cancer of Palm Beach County played a crucial role in the recent groundbreaking pediatric cancer treatment developed by Nicklaus Children's Hospital and Florida International University (FIU) researchers by providing the seed funding that made the research possible. Other major support came from Florida Department of Health's Live Like Bella Pediatric Cancer Research Initiative.
Published this month in Nature Medicine, this innovative approach combines genetic testing with personalized drug testing on tumor samples, resulting in an 83% improvement rate among participating children, including 8-year-old Logan who is battling acute myeloid leukemia for the second time.
The research is led by pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist Dr. Maggie Fader at Nicklaus Children's Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute and Assistant Professor Diana Azzam at FIU's Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work.
